Our Proud History

The Elizabeth Life Saving Club started its journey as a result of the Australian Federal Government stating , “Every child has the right to be taught to swim!”. 

The Elizabeth Club was started by the late John Coles in 1963 with 20 members. John worked hard to establish the Club and get surrounding businesses to sponsor it. Lessons were held on a Saturday morning from 8am to 9.30am in the diving and learners pool. 

In 1989 the Club formally applied for pool space from the then Corporation of the City of Elizabeth as a life saving and learning to swim club. The Club was affiliated with Royal Life Saving South Australia and taught water skills from Level 1 to Distinction Awards. 

In 2012 Members voted to exit Royal Life Saving program and take up affiliation with Surf Life Saving South Australia. It is now the Elizabeth Surf Life Saving Club and is the only pool based club in South Australia.
